PKR Poker Goes Offline Due to Financial Issues

Microgaming has suspended operation of PKR Poker.

The company posted an enigmatic statement about the future of the PKR Poker earlier today:

Following a request from PKR on Wednesday 3 May 2017 at 17:32, Microgaming suspended gameplay on PKR.com. Microgaming is aware that their games remain offline and players are speculating about the reason for this. As soon as Microgaming has more information on the situation, it will be shared as soon as possible.

According to the PKR website the company has filed applications to the Court of Administration Orders, which will be heard the week of May 8. Further information for players and creditors will be posted following the hearings.

PKR Pioneered 3D Space for Online Poker

PKR was never one of the biggest online sites but it offered a unique package for players that included three dimensional tables and avatars.

The graphics emulated real-life poker and players were able to customize their avatars’ appearance as well as perform chips tricks and utilize body language to create false tells.

Initially PKR was one of the fastest growing online poker sites and reportedly had 2.4 million users by 2009.

PKR was one of the very few completely independent poker sites, thanks in part to the unique software, but finally made the decision to join the Microgaming network last year.

Surprisingly PKR’s 3D model survived the transition to the Microgaming thanks to the network’s Babelfish platform.

PKR, which is based in Alderney, sponsored a number of professional players over the years including Sofia “welllbet” Lövgren, Patty ‘BabyTes’ Beaumier, Roman ‘Trogvar’ Khlan and Marc ‘Waswini’ Bariller.

In 2015, PKR made the decision to drop the sponsored player model altogether.

Here’s the complete statement on the PKR status page right now:

Further to earlier announcements, PKR limited and PKR Technologies Ltd have filed applications to Court for Administration orders, which will be heard in the week commencing 8th May 2017.
Further information will be placed on this website following the hearings.
This information will include contact details for players and creditors to address queries and details of the process.
