In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Jerry Buss’ poker legacy, a mysterious tease for a new GPI product and the trailer for Win it All starring Jake Johnson.

1) Jeanie Buss Goes All-In

The late Dr. Jerry Buss loved poker. In fact some would argue he loved it more than owning the LA Lakers towards the end of his life.

The late Jerry Buss.

ESPN published a long feature this week about the current state of the Lakers. And it turns out that current Lakers president Jeanie Buss received poker lessons from her father.

Some of that strategy even helped Jeanie make the bold decision to fire her brother Jim Buss and promote Magic Johnson to President of Basketball operations.

Check out this passage:

“My dad always said poker is about stamina. People think it’s luck or you have to be aggressive and ballsy. And he’s like, ‘No, you have to know your spot, and you have to be disciplined and ballsy enough to hold back but then not get so tired and run down that you’re still sharp.’”

She definitely picked her spot with that Johnson deal. Now time to see if it pays off for the struggling club.

2) Dreyfus Teases GPI Masters Series

What the heck is the GPI Masters Series? It’s a question that many would like to know after GPI CEO Alexandre Dreyfus posted this maddeningly vague image to Twitter:

Could it be a cash game series for professionals? PokerStars just announced a rake-free Cash Game All-Stars concept that has people intrigued.

How about a tournament with only the top 100 players on the GPI? There’s really no way to know. We’re just going to have to wait. You can make your own guesses in the comments section below.

3) Netflix Releases “Win it All” Trailer

Another day, another gambling movie. Following in the footsteps of The Gambler, Lucky You, The Runner and many, many more, Netflix has released the trailer for Win it All.

The premise behind Win it All is that gambling loser Eddie Garrett, played by Jake Johnson, is given a bag of money to safeguard for a shady acquaintance. He ends up gambling with it.

While the synopsis sounds pretty damn generic it’s important to point out this movie seems to have some comedic sensibilities and hopefully won’t fall into the trap of taking itself too seriously.

Plus it appears there will be at least some poker. You can decide for yourself whether the movie will be a Rounders or a Lucky You by watching the trailer below:
