Daily 3-Bet: Raw Phil, Selbst Wins TBT, Aussie Matt Ships $1m Pot

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a mid-afternoon poker news printer that somehow never runs out of ink or struggles with getting jammed up.

You can always make your own suggestions for future 3-Bet pieces in the comments section below.

In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at Phil Hellmuth’s new role with the WPT, vintage Vanessa Selbst and Aussie Matt running wild on Poker After Dark.

1) Hellmuth to Host WPT Raw Deal

With Tony Dunst’s new position in the booth alongside Vince Van Patten for the upcoming season of the WPT there was one looming question: Who would host the Raw Deal?

Over the years Dunst developed the Raw Deal segment into a no-holds barred, sometimes acerbic take on whatever was happening at the tables.

It’s safe to say the WPT found someone that has those qualities in iconic poker pro Phil Hellmuth.

The WPT announced Hellmuth’s new position as Raw Deal host earlier today with the Poker Brat set to begin at WPT Choctaw.

It’s not completely out of left field as Hellmuth has been doing quite a been of television work over the last few years.

Hellmuth has spent time co-hosting WSOP events for ESPN and Poker Night in America. He notably appeared alongside Daniel Negreanu during the break segments for this year’s WSOP Main Event final table.

He also penned a new book over the last year so it seems he’s OK with staying away from the tables for at least a little while.

Here’s a short video the WPT released to commemorate Hellmuth’s new role with the tour:

2) Vanessa Selbst Throwback

Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst doesn’t mess around with Throwback Thursday posts.

She discovered the following gem while going through some old photos recently and it’s pretty much the greatest photo ever.

We desperately need famous poker pros to start posting photos from 1995. Pretty sure Daniel Negreanu would be good for at least a couple memorable ones.

3) Aussie Matt Throws Down on PAD with $980k Pot

We had high hopes for the revitalized Poker After Dark on PokerGO but our expectations have been officially been surpassed after three days of incredible action.

Matt Kirk, also known as Aussie Matt, was the star of the show last night as he managed to win a nearly $1m pot against businessman Bill Klein.

You might recall that Aussie Matt was the breakout star of the original Super High Roller Bowl cash game back in 2015 although that time he got pounded by his opposition.

Aussie Matt was the one with the hammer in the PAD cash game last night, however.

Check out the aforementioned $1m pot Kirk recorded against Klein:
