partypoker to Host First-Ever €1m-GTD Nordic Poker Championship

partypoker LIVE is heading to Prague for the inaugural Nordic Poker Championships this December.

The upstart live tour has been expanding at a rapid rate over the last year and the Prague stop is just the latest addition to a schedule that already includes substantial events in Montreal, Germany and the Caribbean.

The Nordic Poker Championships will take place Dec. 14-18, 2017, at the Grandior Hotel in Prague. The €2,200 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em event will offer a €1m-GTD prize pool.

Only players who have Nordic passports (or residential status in a Nordic country) will be able to take part in the event.

The designated airports are Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm’s Arlanda and Keflavik International in Island.

The tournament will also offer two starting flights with Day 1a on Dec. 14 and Day 1b on Dec. 15 giving players some flexibility.

Displaced Nordic poker tournaments are nothing new in the poker world as many Scandinavians have been forced to travel to other countries to avoid restrictive live tournament laws.

Prague is also a popular place for poker tournaments in December with its famous Christmas markets and a plethora of other poker tournaments on tap.

Satellites for the Nordic Poker Championships begin on partypoker on Oct. 2 with a variety of options for players at any bankroll level.

Johnny Lodden: Competition Will Be Tough

partypoker ambassador Johnny Lodden is already looking forward to making his case for Norwegian players at the Nordic Poker Championships.

“This is a great opportunity for players right across the Nordic region to qualify online for a huge event,” he said.

“A €1 million guarantee is amazing so this is very exciting. It’s fair to say that Nordic players are among the best in the world so this will certainly be a challenge but I’m looking forward to it.”

On the bright side the picturesque winter backdrop of Prague will offer a nice consolation prize to all the players who bust early.

The Nordic Poker Championships is just one of the many regional Championships on the partypoker LIVE schedule.

The €1m-GTD German Poker Championships will take place at King’s Casino in Rozvadov on Aug. 6. On Sept. 8 the tour will return to Montreal for the Canadian Poker Championships, which will offer a $2m-GTD Main Event.
