Game on! The 2015 National Hockey League season begins tonight! Some NHL stars aren’t just amazing on the ice – but can carry their weight at the poker table as well …

Phil Kessel has collected four cashes in the past three years at the World Series of Poker, including a pair of scores this summer in Las Vegas. He has earned $10,449 on the live tournament circuit … still quite a ways from the $10,000,000 he will earn playing in the NHL this season.

Having played the past six seasons in Toronto for the Maple Leafs, Kessel befriended poker superstar Daniel Negreanu, a Toronto native who cheers on his home team with a passion. Kid Poker took Kessel under his wing, helping him develop his game. However, Kessel was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the summer – no word yet on if Negreanu will be asked to travel to Pennsylvania this winter.
