1,227,900 | Laliberte’s circus act helps Benyamine out in a big way

Guy-Laliberte

Inspired by a PokerNews: Ten Years of High Stakes Poker article celebrating the 10th anniversary of the debut of ‘High Stakes Poker’ on GSN in America, we’ll take a look at some of our favorite hands from the iconic TV show over the next few days.

Cirque du Soleil foudre Guy Laliberté loves to play poker … and doesn’t mind being on a wrong end of a massive pot, given that he recently sold the iconic Cirque empire for a reported $1.5 billion US dollars! French poker star David Benyamine, like most poker pros, would rather not lose a million dollar pot!

Queue this HSP hand where a crazy $1,227,900 was in the pot and Laliberté had a 65% chance to win big, while Benyamine was about to lose most of his net worth once the turn and the river hit the felt.

Even the great Doyle Brunson commented on how Laliberté was playing for a single day’s work while Benyamine had all of his money on the line. Some incredible discussions and negotiations would follow and Guy would end up saving Benyamine from having to move in with friends – take a look below:
