IPO Dublin 2014 certainly lived up to all expectations with attendance records being smashed. Some achievement to top boom year numbers in a sector where an environment of diminishing attendance has been so evident.
The success of the event was testament to the years of exemplary work put in by Boylepoker & PokerIreland. The Boylepoker IPO mission has always been to provide a big tournament experience at an affordable buy in. This mission was certainly fulfilled with 1,650 players creating a prize pool in excess of €300,000.
My personal IPO record is abysmal, I continued that trend this time round. Three bullets were fired, the first two were bluffed off, at least I can claim a cooler with the third. I didn’t last 6 levels with any of them. I’m not sure that I’ve ever gotten a bluff through at the IPO so the optimism shown in trying to do so on the first two bullets is definitely questionable.
I wasn’t too disappointed with the appalling poker display. Thankfully The IPO festival is as much about socialising as it is playing poker. Saturday night was the main drinking event with many friends from every corner of the country ensuring a memorable night.
The IPO has a relatively small buy in but it’s a huge tournament. Ciaran, Gerry and all the Boylepoker crew, Stephen and an army of staff all put in a massive effort to make sure everything is in place for us players to enjoy ourselves. The weekend is a massive logistical/administrative undertaking and all those involved deserves great plaudits for making IPO2014 such a fantastic celebration of poker. Congratulations to champion Chris Pyke and all who cashed.
