Cate Hall defeated Mike Dentale 2-0 in their highly-publicized best-of-three heads-up grudge match at the Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia over the weekend.
Hall, who was the odds-on favorite in the match, took an early lead in the series and never let up. Hall played well and got some decent cards, which helped make the match fairly one-sided.
In the final hand of the second, definitive match Hall ended up spiking a set of kings against Dentale’s top pair and then rivering a king to close out the grudge match in style with quads.
20,000+ Viewers Watch Livestream
It turns out that viewers loved #MikeandCatePlusHate and the Twitch stream that broadcast the event hit over 20,000 viewers at one point.
The grudge match originated from a disagreement between Dentale and Hall when he criticized how she played a hand in the WPT Five Diamond Event.
Hall immediately challenged Dentale to a match and, after a considerable amount of discussion, Matt Glantz stepped and offered the Sugarhouse Casino as a venue.
The Sugarhouse was packed for the match with Doug Polk and Shuan Deeb providing commentary for viewers at home.
Both players were competing for charity, Hall for Committee to Protect Journalism and Dentale for Community Volunteers in Medicine (a free clinic for low-income Philadelphia families).
Viewers chipped in $1,625 for Committee to Protect Journalism and another $341 for Dentale’s cause.
Cate Hall isn’t finished apparently and displayed some signature swagger on Twitter after the match:
