Cooper scoops at the Unibet UK Tour in Brighton

The third stop on the Unibet UK Tour in Brighton got 231 entries, smashing the £40k guarantee

The Rendezvous Casino in Brighton boasts a superb poker room. It’s just been refurbished and we’re happy to report that it’s now spacious, comfortable, and slap-bang at the front entrance of the casino with its own bar. You can walk in and sit at a game in about 10 seconds, without having to navigate your way through the usual labyrinth of table games and slots.

This is a place that’s proud about its poker. We like that. (‘Table games? Up that staircase over there and in the back, sir.’)

The Unibet UK Poker Tour likes it too. So much so that the third leg of this year’s tour marks the second time at the Rendezvous after Leg 1 in February. Curtis Lambert came out on top of the 245-strong field then and he was back in action for Leg 3, along with local luminaries such as Sam Razavi, Jen Mason and Bruce Atkinson.

After the two Day 1s played out, a total of 231 entries had created a prize pool of £48,000, with a €2k Unibet Open package on top for the winner and another for the last-standing online qualifier.

Mixed games

One of the best things about the Unibet UK Tour is the mix of players. Curtis Lambert was still in the mix on Day 2 but he fell for a cash of £380 in 22nd spot. Seven of the remaining 21 players recorded their very first live cashes, with Vasco Branquinho doing the best, making the final table and cashing for £1,270.

Heads-up came down to a battle between Aidan Ball (with just one previous cash in his first ever live event) and the more experienced Chris Cooper. Cooper recorded the biggest cash of his ten year poker career back in February when he won £12,247 and he came out on top again here, winning £10,055 and the €2k Unibet Open package. Ball won’t be too upset though after striking a deal and taking the other €2k Open package as the last-standing qualifier (he satellited in for just €4). He’ll join Cooper at Unibet Copenhagen in August.
