Daily 3-Bet: Jake + Ryan, Billie v. Bobby, GPL s1 By the #s

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is a crisp wooden racket, a new pair of Stan Smiths and a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 sweep on the afternoon poker news hard court.

Today in the 3-Bet we find a couple of kings on the PSC Panama live stream, a flashback battle of the sexes and the Global Poker League by the numbers.

1) Cody, Riess on Stream

The PokerStars Championship Panama may be comparatively low on field numbers but by percentage of stars per capita, it’s still pretty solid.

A couple of those big names – PokerStars pro Jake Cody and former WSOP Main Event champ Ryan Riess – are, in fact, playing their trade on the PokerStars Live Stream as we speak.

Expect a few more notables/feature tables mixed in today with players like UFC crusher Tito Ortiz, David Peters and Jason Koon still in the hunt. Watch it all below:

2) Cate Hall vs. Mike Dentale Live on Sunday

Speaking of live streams, this Sunday will see the long-awaited, heads-up “grudge” match between Cate Hall and Mike Dentale.

Lit off by a Twitter feud during the WPT Five Diamond last December, the $30k showdown will go off live on Poker Night in America’s Twitch Channel starting at 3 pm ET.

Mike Dentale vs Cate Hall Poster

One’s a Hall of Famer; one’s not.

What does it all mean and what will it prove? Hard to say, really. The limited amount of hands will make it hard to definitively declare a “better” player although it should illuminate who really grasps GTO/modern poker strategy.

The smart betting money so far has leaned towards Hall while the “bro” vote has gone to Dentale, which seems par for the course.

It’s not exactly a “Battle of the Sexes” for poker per se – and we’re pretty sure Hall would recoil at the suggestion – but it does have some similar overtones to another famed “BOTS.”

Remember Billie Jean King vs. Bobby Riggs? Over-the-hill blowhard says he could beat any woman because, well, she’s a woman? Yeah, that one.

If history is a lesson, one of these players will go on to become a Hall of Famer and revolutionize an entire sport. You can guess who’s who.

3) 2 Gongs 1 Cube

Given the uptick in Tweets from Global Poker League head honcho Alex Dreyfus lately an announcement regarding GPL Season 2 seems forthcoming pretty shortly.

Last year at this time we were past the inaugural draft and had the schedule set for Season 1, so we assume things will ramp up soon.

Based on a new 5-year-deal signed to develop GPL China and a new push into Latin America and India, it seems like after an up-and-down start things are definitely going more “global” for s2 and beyond, which sounds very promising.

Here’s a glimpse at some of the key numbers from Season 1 to keep you sated:
