Daily 3-Bet: Trump Bluffs, Libratus Crushes, Reckful PLO Heater

The PokerListings Daily 3-Bet is like a beloved rerun of a popular old sitcom where everything gets wrapped up and everyone learns a lesson about the mid-afternoon poker news world in 30 minutes or less.

You can always make your own suggestions for future 3-Bet pieces in the comments section below.

In today’s Daily 3-Bet we’ll take a look at a new James McManus article about President Donald Trump, Libratus absolutely crushing and Twitch streamer Reckful’s surprising PLO run.

1) McManus: Trump = Bad Bluffer

Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States today.

Trump poker

The real poker game begins.

It may sound like an episode of the Twilight Zone but that’s the reality.

Many pundits believe Trump was able to essentially bluff voters during the election to garner votes but that will likely be more difficult now that’s he’s president.

That’s the premise of a new James McManus piece for Bloomberg titled “In Nuclear Poker, Don’t Bet on Trump”.

McManus got a quote from Negreanu that illustrated how Trump was able to win the election using some basic poker strategy.

“Trump’s bluffs are very effective against level-one thinkers. His lies are so outlandish that people think they have to be true or he wouldn’t have said it. The constant barrage makes him tougher to read. But sharper players would pick him apart.”

Hey if nothing else we’ve got four years of poker analogies ahead of us.

2) Libratus Up $471,600 Nearing Halfway Point

Uh oh, humans.

Poker A.I. Libratus is officially up $471,600 as we near the halfway point of the Brains vs. A.I. 2 challenge and we’re officially worried for our human brethren.

Through 49,240 hands Libratus is up $471k on the Jason Les, Daniel McAulay, Jimmy Chou and Dong Kim team.

Technically Dong Kim is the only player who has a profit against Libratus after 49k hands. Even that profit is relatively small, however, at $12k.

Meanwhile Les is down a staggering $173k and we’re going to need a serious turnaround ASAP if there’s any hope for the Brains in the challenge.

If Libratus keeps this up the challenge may be almost over by the time the weekend is complete.

3) Reckful’s Wild $2k to $40k PLO Ride

Popular Hearthstone streamer Byron “Reckful” Bernstein has been on one heck of a Pot-Limit Omaha tangent lately.

It’s safe to say it’s going well as Reckful has somehow turned $2k into $40k in less than a week despite a limited knowledge of PLO.

While some have been quick to criticize Reckful’s PLO skills he does have at least one vocal fan in his corner: hardcore PLO pro/YouTube streamer Joey “ChicagoJoey” Ingram.

Ingram was pleased just to see a popular Twitch streamer playing PLO but he also took the time to review one of his hands and was pleasantly surprised by the way Reckful thought about the game:
