Irish Poker Open

Europe’s oldest poker tournament - it’s all about longevity!

The longest river in the world is the Nile, the longest time that bloody Miley Cyrus can keep her tongue in her mouth is 0.89 seconds, and the longest day of the year is… any Monday.

Here’s another more salient fact about something that has run for a very long time. The Paddy Power Irish Open is the longest running No Limit Texas hold ‘em poker tournament in Europe. Incidentally it’s also the second longest in the world after the World Series of Poker.

First organised in 1981 by maverick Irish bookmaker Terry Rogers, the tournament is one of the world’s most prestigious live poker festivals and has become a fixture on the international poker calendar.  Did we mention that last year’s prize pool racked up to over €1,000,000? Ian Simpson, who came in 1st place, also won his girlfriend’s hand in marriage!

We can’t promise you a marriage, but we can promise that the Irish Open 2014 will take place during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend (18th – 21st April) at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, Dublin (Formerly The Burlington Hotel), and the buy-in will remain at the reduced rate of €2,000 Buy In + €250 Reg Fee.

Ironically, this Irish born event is almost as well known for the ‘craic’ as it is for the poker. If you’ve played the Irish Open before, you’ll know the atmosphere is second to none. If you haven’t, make sure you don’t miss out in 2014.
