GUKPT Luton sees a huge entry as Will Davies is crowned Champion
The penultimate £200,000 Guaranteed leg of GUKPT Season has come to a close and it was 23 year old Pinner resident Will Davies who emerged victorious, winning the GUKPT Trophy and £65,550 in cold hard cash. Davies left his sales job in a racket store in Amersham to pursue poker as a full time profession and after clinching this fantastic result that decision looks like a Grand Slam!
Grosvenor Casino Luton are delighted to see the trophy go to one of their regular players and were even more delighted for Davies after he won his £1,090 seat for just £90 in Sunday night’s Mega Satellite. The GUKPT Main Event attracted 226 players from around the country, generating a prizepool of £226,000. Naturally the big money on offer attracts some of the best poker players in the UK so Davies certainly had his work cut out for him!
Runner up Gary Banks, also a Grosvenor Casino Luton regular, came 2nd for £42,920 and mentioned he’d be spending some of his winnings on some new socks! Richard Kellet finished 3rd for £26,900 and is quickly rising through the U.K Poker ranks as one to watch! Carpenter Janis Peternieks (4th) travelled from Latvia to Luton for the event. Like Davies he also won his seat via one of the many satellites on offer. Chris Gordon started off on the table in a strong position but after suffering some bad beats bowed out in 5th for £12,250. Ben Morrison (6th) decided to take part in the GUKPT after playing in the record breaking Goliath back in August and he could not have been more pleased with his first GUKPT cash! Regular tour faces Martin Bader (7th) and Carl Spicer (9th) also featured on the final table adding yet another cash to their impressive poker resumes. The only woman to feature on the final table was Wai Yuen. Wai, from the West Midlands, won her seat via an online satellite on www.grosvenorpoker.com and said she was looking forward to spending some of her £6,150 winnings on some good food!
Attention now turns to the next 2015 leg which will be in Grosvenor Casino Blackpool from 8th to 15th November. This will be the last £200,000 guaranteed (£1,090 buy-in) Main Event for the year and taking place just before the much anticipated £400,000 guaranteed (£2,150 buy-in) Grand Final at London’s iconic “The Poker Room” at Grosvenor Casino Victoria.
