Maria Lampropulos Takes Down PartyPoker Millions for £1m

The inaugural £6-GTD PartyPoker Millions at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham is complete and Argentinian Maria Lampropulos is £1m richer.

Lampropulos had to outlast a monster field of 6,500+ players thanks to the unique structure of the PartyPoker Millions, which includes both live and online Day 1s.

The overall prize pool hit £6,017,395 making it one of the biggest tournaments ever held in the UK.

Stephen Chidwick, arguably the most well-known pro at the final table, ended up finishing sixth for £150,000.

The final table featured two female players as the U.K.’s Katie Swift finished 7th for £100,000.

Lampropulos Makes Huge Play in Last Hand

Maria Lampropulos and opponent Jacob Mulhern were very deep stacked by the time they got heads-up so many were expecting a long, drawn out affair.

It wasn’t to be as Lampropulos took a huge risk shoving pocket kings but managed to get a call out of Mulhern who had A-Q.

Mulhern picked up one heck of a consolation prize as he earned 650,000 for finishing second and an additional 100,000 for being the last player left in the PartyPoker Golden Chip Last Longer promotion.

It just so happened that a ladies event was being held at the exact moment Lampropulos won the Millions so she got a little extra cheering after locking up the title.

Lampropulos is no stranger to the poker world with over $600k in lifetime live tournament earnings.

She also has the unusual distinction of playing her boyfriend Ivan Luca heads-up at Eureka side event with $115k on the line in 2016. Lampropulos lost that one but now has some serious bragging rights.

After a successful event in Nottingham, PartyPoker Live will now head to Montreal for the North American Millions, which are set to take place May 5-10, 2017.
