Mercier, Stapes Among 2017 American Poker Award Winners

Over the last 12 months Jason Mercier won two WSOP bracelets, won WSOP player of the year, got married and accumulated over $1m in winnings.

After last night you can add won an American Poker Award to that rather lengthy list of achievements.

Mercier got his award in the highly-competitive Best Poker Moment category beating Griffin Benger vs. Will Kassouf and David Peters clutch’ POY victory.

Ari Engel, Cate Hall, Maurice Hawkins, Dan Smith and Peters were also among the profession poker players who won awards at the 2017 American Poker Awards in Beverly Hills last night.

Stapleton Takes Media Person of the Year

Long-time poker commentator and TV personality Joe Stapleton took home media person of the year.

Stapleton has appeared on nearly every poker platform over the years including the EPT, GPL, The Final Table and many others.

Interestingly Cate Hall, who won Female Player of the Year, graciously accepted her award but mentioned she didn’t think there should be a separate award for female players since men and women are equals at the poker table.

Lance Bradley, of, took home Poker Content of the Year for his heartwarming tale of Bob Brundige’s life-changing journey to the WSOP Main Event.

PokerListings’ Matt Showell was also nominated in the category for the video documentary Stu Ungar’s Last Chance Gone Wrong.

Joe Ingram won Podcast of the Year for his celebrated Poker Life Podcast, beating out newcomer Daniel Negreanu and his Full Contact Poker Podcast.
