WSOP Daily Digest, July 1: Anthony Zinno leading the $25k PLO & Jamie Gold is back!

Anthony Zinno is having a blazing hot 2015 and the WPT Player of the Year is set to bring the field home in the $25k PLO

1. Gunning for Gold

We feel like we’ve been taken back in time. While the Super High Roller Cash Game was playing out in the Aria across the Strip (with the promise of AJ Benza and Gabe Kaplan on commentary when it’s televised), 2006 Main Event winner Jamie Gold was dragging pots with Three-high and showing the bluffs in the Rio. Gold was playing Event #59: $1,500 NLHE and with just 37 players left from a starting field of 2,155, Gold is currently second in chips and is only one of two players above a million with 1,067,000. Guiliano Bendinelli is the dominant chip leader with 1.5m and Jesse Yaginuma is third with 773,000.

Think what you like about Jamie Gold, but there’s no doubt that he would make for entertaining viewing on the final table live stream. They return at 1pm when they’re scheduled to play to a finish, but it could be a late one.

Event #59: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em

Position Name Chips
1 Guiliano Bendinelli 1,551,000
2 Jamie Gold 1,067,000

5 Luis Freitas 711,000
6 Ari Engel 673,000
7 Harrison Gimbel 645,000
8 Joe Kuether 598,000
9 Alex Lindop 587,000
10 Haixia Zhang 580,000

2. Zinno leads final 12 in $25k PLO

Late reg brought the tournament up to a juicy 175 runners which means the winner of the inaugural $25k PLO will take home seven figures – $1,122,196 to be precise. WPT Player of the Year Anthony Zinno has had a fantastic 2015 so far, with back-to-back WPT titles in February and four cashes at the WSOP – all final tables, including seventh in the $111,111 ONE DROP. He’s currently leading the way here with 12 left, after buying in once he was eliminated from the ONE DROP.

Finland’s Juha Helppi is second, Shaun Deeb is after his second bracelet of the series in fifth and the UK’s Talal Shakerchi is bringing up the rear with 457,000. Action starts again at 2pm with the stream kicking in once they reach the final table.

Event #60: $25,000 High Roller Pot Limit Omaha

2 Juha Helppi 2,214,000
3 Alexander Kostritsyn 1,812,000
4 Michael Ferrell 1,488,000
5 Shaun Deeb 942,000

10 Ismael Bojang 562,000

3. Little One for ONE DROP

The affordable charity tournament kicked off yesterday, with 4,555 players sitting and the majority paying the full $1,111 to get a full stack of 10,000. You could also skip the charity donation and start with 5,000 but few people wanted to look so cheap. They’re still playing at the moment, with Carlos Mortensen and Simon Deadman in the top 10, and Barry Greenstein and PokerPlayer’s Sofia Lovgren just outside.

Day 1B starts today and it will see another monster field join for Day 2 and a similar size donation going to the ONE DROP foundation.
